What Is MOH'S Micrographic Surgery?
This is a form of skin cancer surgery developed by Frederick Moh's in the early 1940's. Since most of the skin cancers we treat grow tangentially, and the "roots" of the cancer may go far beyond the visible lesion. Dr. Moh's realized that to just cut these off would cause a number to reoccur. He found, however, that if these were cut off and checked in a special way under a microscope, a doctor could see where the roots were going. By following the roots, the cure rate could be enhanced. Currently, the cure for basal cell carcinomas and squamous cell carcinomas is greater that 99%.
