Unwanted veins, also called spider veins or varicose veins are a big nuisance. They appear where they are least wanted, usually on the legs and face, or other places. Spider veins are dilated small blood vessels, and are a red or bluish color. They are called “Spider Veins” because of their thin, curly appearance.
Blood vessels like this are often the result of several factors:
- Your genetics
- Your skin type
- Sun exposure
Spider veins do not go away on their own, but they can be treated with a variety of options.
In many cases, Dr. Lycka performs a procedure called Sclerotherapy. A special solution, called a sclerosing solution is injected with a very fine needle directly into the blood vessels. The solution irritates the lining of the vessel, causing it to fade. Eventually the treated blood vessels become barely noticeable or invisible. This procedure has been used for spider veins and larger veins since the 1930’s.
